Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in Primary Care (Half-Day Course)

Course Overview

This half-day course is designed for nurses and allied health professionals working in General Practice who are involved in assessing and managing menstrual concerns.

The session provides a focused, evidence-based overview of Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB) in line with NICE NG88 guidance. Teaching supports clinicians in conducting structured menstrual histories, recognising red flags, initiating appropriate first-line management within Primary Care, and understanding when referral is required.

While heavy menstrual bleeding is the central focus, associated conditions that may present with abnormal bleeding — including ovulatory dysfunction and other endocrine causes — are discussed within the context of safe assessment and management.

The emphasis throughout is on clinical safety, proportionate investigation, and patient-centred counselling.
